Members dealing with Mestinon-related bowel issues shared their experiences and practical strategies for managing this common side effect. Several members found relief by lowering their dose, cutting pills in half, taking half a dose before going out, or keeping generic Imodium on hand for unexpected flares. A recurring theme was the importance of working closely with neurologists and gastro doctors, staying hydrated, and giving the body a few weeks to adjust after stopping or reducing Mestinon.

Carol it took me 3 weeks when I just lowered my mestinon from 90mg 3 x a day to 60mg 2 x a day , I still get loose stools once in a while but nothing like before , I can control it , but the incontinence hasn't stopped maybe let up some , I wish you lots of luck , I know how aggravating it can be ❤

Hi Carol. I also had diarrhea from mestinon. Was on 60 mg 3x a day. My Doc had me cut the morning pill in half. My bowel issues have improved, but not totally gone. I think I can live with it. Not ready to change meds because the mestinon with a little prednisone have controlled the gMG a lot. Good luck.

I find the bowel issue to be dose related. My neurologist suggested that when I am going out, take only half a dose of Mestinon (30 mg). Also I always have generic Imodium with me, cause I can feel if my stomach starts to‘rumble’.
