Members responded with care and practical advice to someone experiencing intense lower abdominal cramps and digestive issues, with many connecting the symptoms to Mestinon, a common MG medication. Several members shared personal remedies that helped them, including Dulcolax, Miralax, dried prunes, apricots, cod liver oil, warm compresses, gentle massage, and switching to an anti-inflammatory diet. A recurring theme was the importance of contacting a doctor or neurologist, and the thread ended with the original member sharing they were hospitalized and diagnosed with C. diff, prompting an outpouring of prayers and support.

Morning. I think I may be constipated. I've been on Mestinon since diagnosis in Feb 2026. First time I've had this discomfort. It's not as intense yet ..thank you for advise. I will reach out to Neurologist office. Somedays hard to get answer. But I can call my primary they respond immediately. God Bless

Oh thank you. I have Dulcolax. Didn't think of it. My husband is going to get me Miralax. This is first time it's been this intense.

Are you taking mestinon for MG. It can cause cramp at the beginning but I guess after a while you get better or at least I did. Hope you do too. If not reach out to your Nuerologist. 🙏🏼

Are you experiencing lower abdominal cramps and digestive issues and wondering what to do?

First, if the pain is severe or getting worse, please seek medical attention right away. Abdominal cramps can sometimes be unrelated to MG, so it's important not to ignore them. In the meantime, here are a few things that may help:

- Stay hydrated — sip water slowly to avoid dehydration, which can worsen muscle cramps
- Rest — avoid any physical exertion while you're feeling this way
- Heat — a warm (not hot) heating pad on your abdomen may help ease cramping, but be cautious as heat can sometimes worsen MG symptoms
- Avoid food for now until the cramping settles

It's worth noting that some medications used to manage MG, like pyridostigmine (Mestinon), can sometimes cause gastrointestinal side effects. Let your doctor know what's happening, especially if symptoms continue or worsen.

When in doubt, call your doctor or a nurse helpline — they can help figure out if this needs urgent attention. You know your body best! 💙
