I fully endorse an anti-inflammatory diet. This easy to swallow and digest and if you drink fruit smoothies and soft veggies chicken and fish you can reduce a choking Hazzard.
It was really hard to swallow anything before I switched over, I guess it gave my esophagus a much needed rest too. I always had to brace myself before I swallowed.
Stay hopeful 😎

I don't necessarily follow a diet plan, but I had to change to softer foods in order to swallow, I eat alot of grilled fish and fresh fruit these days and I'm doing fine

Is there a better diet to follow with myasthenia gravis, like a Mediterranean diet?

While no specific diet is officially required for MG, focusing on whole, nutritious foods can help you feel your best and support overall health. A Mediterranean-style approach aligns well with what works for many people with MG.

The key is choosing foods that are:
- Easy to chew and swallow (if you have bulbar symptoms)
- Anti-inflammatory
- Nutrient-dense
- Simple to prepare when fatigue hits

Foods that work well include:
- Eggs (soft, protein-rich, and packed with vitamins)
- Yogurt (probiotics for gut health, calcium for bone strength)
- Avocados (anti-inflammatory fats, high potassium, soft texture)
- Green smoothies (easy way to get fruits and veggies without chewing)
- Omega-3 rich fish like salmon
- Soft fruits and vegetables

If you're taking steroids like prednisone, focus on calcium and vitamin D for bone health, and limit sodium to prevent fluid retention.

There's emerging research linking gut health to MG, so eating plenty of fruits, vegetables, and probiotic-rich foods may be beneficial. Foods to limit or avoid:
- Spicy foods (can worsen GI side effects from medications like Mestinon)
- High-sodium processed foods and canned goods (especially if on steroids)
- Foods requiring lots of chewing if you have swallowing difficulties

Consider eating smaller, more frequent meals when you feel strongest, and meet with a registered dietitian for personalized guidance if you're struggling with nutrition.
