First a surgery comes with risks of complications. However, my approach is if it needs to done now for an important reason then it needs to be done.

I had carpal tunnel surgery shortly after I was diagnosed. After informing the hand surgeon that I gMG, I informed my Neurologist, she sent a set of instructions to the hand surgeon. On surgery day I was given a light sedation to help me relax. And he used a local nerve block. Once he was done I had middle discomfort that was handled with Tylenol.

This past January. I had to have emergency surgery, I ripped my Quad muscles and the tendon that they connect too.

I informed the doctor in the ER that I have gMG, and gave them the contact information for my Neurologist. Prior to surgery I informed both the Surgeon and the Anesthesiologist that I had gMG. After surgery I didn’t experience any problems even though I was mental prepared for a problem and fully expected to wake up.in ICU.

Instead I woke up I a patient room on a surgical ward.

On June 3rd I’m having yet another surgery that has to happen now. Once I informed the surgeon that I have gMG, and then informed my neurologist. She sent a note to the surgeon with clear instructions before surgery starts.

At times we need to have surgery, and the only thing within our control is to keep the right people informed and I always expect the worst and hope for the best.

I hope that this is helpful to some, and be aware that this is nothing more than my opinion, which doesn’t make it right or wrong.

Good luck and remember to keep your neurologist involved in the process.

Cheryl I hope you feel better reading the comments from other people that have gone through surgery and all went well. I know it’s not easy but try to keep your anxiety level to a minimum. Take deep breaths in and out to help calm you down. We will all be praying for you and keep us posted.

Hi Brenda,
I wish I could say everything will be ok, but none of use know what tomorrow will bring. However, the one thing that we can control is how we choose to prepare for future surgery’s.

As an example I have another surgery scheduled in a couple of weeks. I informed my neurologist and the surgeon, but I know that the best preparation doesn’t always ensure success.

I’ve done everything that I can do to prepare for the surgery, but I don’t ever forgot the illness that I’m working with.can decide to make life difficult at any point.

On the plus side I’ve started Ultomiris and tomorrow is my 2nd infusion.

Look at it this way, we are all at risk every day.

Good luck and I hope that all goes well for you.

Very good advice. Wayne.
I deal with these issues the same way that you do, the more they know the safer it is for us.
Thanks for helping spread the word. It's scary not knowing what the right thing to do is. Educating people is the best.
I hope you have a wonderful day and take care
May God give you lots of strength today. Take care and have a blessed week

I have to admit that my anxiety is off the chart because of the major 10-12 hour back and neck surgery surgery coming up. But I have to have 7 days of traction first. I'm already having shortness of breath from the MG.
