Does muscle fatigue cause muscle pain with myasthenia gravis?

Muscle fatigue and muscle pain are actually different experiences with MG. Fatigued muscles feel tired but not necessarily weak or painful. However, muscle pain and cramps can occur alongside fatigue for different reasons.

The muscle pain you might experience often comes from your MG medications rather than the fatigue itself. Cholinesterase inhibitors like pyridostigmine, which help combat muscle weakness, are linked to muscle cramps and pain as side effects.

Additionally, the strain from weak muscles can sometimes lead to general aches and discomfort. When muscles aren't working well, it can change how you move, putting extra pressure on your body over time.

So while fatigue doesn't directly cause pain, both symptoms can happen together with MG - just from different sources. If you're experiencing muscle pain or cramps, it's worth discussing with your healthcare team whether your medications or movement patterns might be contributing factors.
