I went gluten free when I was first diagnosed and started taking tumeric to decrease inflammation . Recently I have been able to add gluten but I keep it to a minimum and continue to take tumeric

I’m not actually a vegetarian, but I do eat a lot of vegetables, fish and chic. I’m supposed to reduce my carbs and my sugars so I’m very limited as to what i can choose to eat plus sodium isnt any good either so I’m pretty much eating more of a Mediterranean diet it seems to me.

I'm not a vegetarian but I take from the menu. Less red meat and mote poultry and fish helped me.
Fruit and smoothies keep me regular and has eased a lot of inflammation and my flare ups.

Is becoming a vegetarian a good idea with MG?

There's no official restriction against following a vegetarian diet with MG. The key is making sure nutritional needs are met, especially since some symptoms like fatigue and swallowing difficulties can make eating challenging.

A well-planned vegetarian diet can work, but there are some important considerations:

Protein and nutrient sources to focus on:
- Eggs are highly recommended - they're soft, easy to swallow, packed with protein, and contain nearly every essential vitamin
- Yogurt provides protein, calcium, and probiotics that support digestive and immune health
- Avocados offer healthy fats and are easy to eat due to their creamy texture

Important nutrients to monitor:
- Vitamin B12 (supports nerve health and reduces fatigue) - typically found in meat, fish, dairy, and eggs
- Omega-3 fatty acids (help with inflammation and nerve health) - can be obtained from flaxseeds and walnuts
- Calcium and vitamin D (especially important if taking corticosteroids long-term)

If swallowing is difficult, soft foods and smoothies packed with fruits and vegetables can help maintain good nutrition while supporting gut health.

The most important thing is ensuring the diet provides adequate nutrition to support overall health. Working with a healthcare provider or nutritionist can help create a balanced vegetarian plan that meets specific needs with MG.
