My husband takes Berberine supplement morning and night. It has worked very well for him. The doctor recommended it, as statins caused too many side effects.
I started on ezetimibe first but then was told it doesn’t do much. My PCP wanted me on a statin so badly, but I kept telling him I can’t take it. I had a whole big test done that told me the meds my body could, shouldn’t and couldn’t take. The only huge no no was statins. My cholesterol is really bad, and my PCP kept pushing so I agreed to a very small dose only every other day. Rosuvastatin. Lo and behold, it exacerbated my MG. I stopped. I saw him recently and he kept saying that I was refusing to take it. No, I can’t, not won’t. It’s contraindicated with MG, too.
I have been taking Red Yeast Rice for years. I had to off of statins as it was impacting my strength and memory. I continue to take it and have not had any side effects with my MG meds.
Idk if it's good for everyone but my primary physician put me on ezitimibe 2.5mg so far so good. All my meds have been rx'd over the past 2 years after I came out of remission.
Dear Yvett, I myself did not do well on any statins. In fact, when I was prescribed statins is when my MG symptoms began. I do not recommend any statin medication for cholesterol. I hope you are doing well.
