Research suggests that people with stable MG can safely exercise and improve muscle function. The recommended amount is 150 minutes of moderate physical activity per week. Studies have shown that regular exercise, whether focused on endurance or strength, can be beneficial and may even improve quality of life.
However, it's crucial to exercise carefully and listen to your body. Some MGteam members report positive experiences with exercise, noting it helps with stress management and adds structure to their day. Key safety tips for exercising with MG:
• Use low weights for any strength training
• Perform fewer repetitions
• Take frequent breaks
• Listen to your body and rest when needed
• Consider starting with gentle activities like stretching
• Always consult with your neurologist before starting any new exercise routine
Remember that MG muscle fatigue can worsen with repetitive and prolonged use, so it's essential to pace yourself and allow time for muscle recuperation.
