A myasthenic crisis typically develops gradually, with noticeable worsening of symptoms before becoming severe. Key warning signs that you may be progressing from a flare-up to a crisis include:

• Increasing difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
• Growing weakness in muscles
• Increased trouble swallowing
• Sleep apnea symptoms

If you notice these symptoms intensifying, it's crucial to contact your healthcare provider or seek emergency care immediately. A myasthenic crisis is considered a life-threatening emergency that affects about 10-20% of people with MG at least once in their lifetime. During a crisis, respiratory muscles become too weak to move enough air in and out of your lungs. This may require ventilator support.

Common triggers for a crisis can include:
• Menstrual cycle
• Pregnancy
• Sleep deprivation
• Surgery
• Extreme temperatures
• Emotional distress
• Medication changes
• Vaccinations

Importantly, in 30-40% of cases, no specific trigger is identified.

Track to see if your symptoms get worse and track them. If you're having worsening of any symptoms go to e.r. or urgent care or call 911 right away. Don't wait. Every moment is precious.
Stay hopeful 😎

My advice is don’t wait! My first serious flare after diagnosis was much like you have described. Even a flare is something to treat seriously and quickly. I remember thinking this was just how it was going to be. Had to add IVIG to the mix and ultimately had to be hospitalized. Talk with your neurologist. There are things that can be tried to prevent a full blown crisis. Take care!

GeorgiaErickson, Oh gosh! Sorry you are so symptomatic & you are definitely in a flare. Are you on an immunosuppressant & Mestinon or Steroids currently & still flaring?

Facial droop and eyes at half mast, weakness in legs all the time. Arms a little hands a lot, slur words. Fatigue, apathy, double and blurry vision. I have some other autoimmune diseases can't really figure out what's going on. How are you getting along?
