Diaphragm weakness in myasthenia gravis can be a serious symptom that requires prompt medical attention. The key signs include:

• Difficulty breathing
• Increased fatigue
• Muscle weakness that may worsen throughout the day
• Symptoms that improve with rest but return with activity

If experiencing any breathing difficulties, it's crucial to contact your healthcare team immediately for evaluation and potential treatment adjustments. Like other MG symptoms, diaphragm weakness can fluctuate and may be triggered or worsened by:

• Hot weather
• Infections
• Stress
• Certain medications
• Physical exertion
• Menstruation

Working with your neurologist to identify personal triggers can help manage these symptoms more effectively.

Dear Johanna, The heat will bring diaphragm weakness on for me. I can breathe, but it is difficult to get a good full breath in and then I become overall body weak, I am guessing because of lack of oxygen. I used to love Summer, but since MG, the heat can get me. Are you feeling some of the above symptoms from the MG team article ? I hope you are doing ok.

No I'm not but I do think I had a crazy flare up last week. I had been sitting down in a cool room. And suddenly I couldn't take a clear breath. It was painful.
I feel much better this week. My breathing is a little shallow still. One day at a time.

Hi. I was recently diagnosed with mg last winter. The heat makes it feel like I'm breathing through a warm wet blanket. I used to have so much fun during the warm months. But now I simply cannot take the heat.
