My doctor said to take magnesium in small doses but I recently learned there are different types of magnesium and I don't know which I should be taking now and at what dose.

Important caution: People with MG need to be especially careful with magnesium supplementation. The safest approach is getting magnesium through food sources like nuts, seeds, dark leafy greens, and the small amounts found in multivitamins rather than isolated supplements. Before starting any magnesium supplement, consult with your neurologist as magnesium can interact with several medications including:
- Antibiotics
- Medications for osteoporosis
- Diuretics
- Proton pump inhibitors

Also be careful with over-the-counter medications like antacids and laxatives which may contain magnesium. Natural food sources are the safest way to get magnesium. Good options include:
- Pumpkin seeds
- Chia seeds
- Almonds
- Cashews
- Peanuts
- Cooked spinach
- Black beans
- Soymilk

Your body will better regulate magnesium from food sources compared to supplements.

Not sure if this will help anyone, but my neurologist place magnesium in my allergy list with comments so anyone treating me will see that and the note that I have MG and any treatment needs to be weighed against the risks for me.

PS I use doctors within one hospital system only so they all can see my history.

My neurologist told me I could not take a magnesium supplement, but if other supplements I take have magnesium in them, it is OK because it is a small amount.

You're better off asking your doctor.
My neurologist told me I could take Magnesium Glycinate for muscle spasms.
