I had an MRI this morning with contrast. Shortly after returning home my arms and legs became very weak, almost like a strong pulling/aching feeling. Also my left eye became droopy and heavy. Later in the day I struggled with making the swallowing action and also some drooling. Has anyone else experienced this after having Contrast injected in your body?

Mary, years ago I worked as an X-ray, and some contrast media can have side effects, some may require immediate assistance.

I would reach out to your doctor as soon as possible and let them make a decision of next steps.

Question: Can MRI contrast trigger MG symptoms?

While MRI scans themselves are typically normal in people with MG since the condition affects the neuromuscular junction rather than brain tissue, it's important to note any new or worsening symptoms after procedures. The symptoms you're describing - weakness in limbs, drooping eyelids, and difficulty swallowing - are classic MG symptoms that can flare up during times of stress on the body. These symptoms align with both ocular and generalized MG manifestations. Drooping eyelids (ptosis) is one of the most common symptoms, and when combined with bulbar symptoms like difficulty swallowing, it suggests a generalized MG response. Please contact your healthcare provider immediately to report these symptoms, as they may need to adjust your treatment plan or provide additional support.

I wonder if the stress of the MRI may have caused a reaction? Just a thought.

I have that problem. Come to find out, I'm allergic to any contrast dye, especially the one with iodine.
