This sounds really serious, and it's completely understandable to be scared right now. With a lung infection AND three antibiotics in the mix, there's a lot going on that could affect MG symptoms.
Please seek emergency care immediately if you notice any of these warning signs:
- Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath getting worse
- Trouble swallowing
- Rapidly increasing muscle weakness
- Chest pain
- Confusion or inability to stay awake
- Blue or pale skin, lips, or fingernails The leg weakness and arm pain are concerning because infections alone can trigger MG flares — and some antibiotics can also worsen muscle weakness. It can be hard to tell which is causing the symptoms, which is exactly why a doctor needs to know what's happening right now.
Right away:
- Contact your neurologist urgently and tell them which 3 antibiotics you're on
- If you can't reach your neurologist quickly and symptoms are worsening, go to the ER
- Make sure every doctor treating you knows you have myasthenia gravis
Don't wait this one out at home. The combination of a lung infection and worsening weakness needs medical eyes on it today.
