I got the Rituximab after my crisis six years ago. 2 infusions per cycle / 2 cycles per year for 2 years. At the start they can go long (5-7 hours in the chair for me) during that first year. Unlike some of the newer treatment regimens I’ve been on, results took time. The first cycle didn’t really help much, but the 3rd & 4th did. Until by the 5th, it kind of plateaued out for me. There was also a steep drop off in symptoms relief about a month before each new cycle was scheduled. We’re all different and respond differently to the various meds. Wishing you some genuine relief….

It's great that your care team is being cautious — low immunoglobulin levels before starting rituximab is definitely something worth taking seriously before moving forward.
Rituximab is used in MG when other treatments haven't controlled symptoms well enough, or when side effects from other medications become too difficult to manage. It's considered a targeted treatment that works by calming the immune system. Some MGteam members have shared experiences with rituximab as part of their MG treatment journey, often after trying more traditional options first. Here are a few things worth knowing:
- It's typically used alongside or after other immunosuppressants
- Treatment plans with rituximab are highly individualized
- Your antibody type (AChR or MuSK) can influence how it's used in your care plan
- Regular monitoring, including immunoglobulin levels, is an important part of staying safe on this treatment
Once your levels are back in a safer range, it's worth having a detailed conversation with your specialist about timing and what to expect. You're in good hands with a team that's paying close attention! 😊
