Gets raspy. I am only eating soft foods because I choke. I have alot of numbness but I have diabetes so I thought it was that. My doctor told me I had MG then when my labs came back she said never mind. But something is wrong what do I do?

Hi Rebecca - definitely sounds like MG symptoms. Did you see a neurologist or just a GP?

What steps can you take when your symptoms are serious but your doctor seems uncertain about your diagnosis?

First β€” what you're experiencing sounds really difficult, and it's completely valid to feel frustrated and confused. The symptoms you're describing β€” arm weakness, leg weakness, raspy voice, and choking β€” are all recognized symptoms of myasthenia gravis. You deserve answers. Here are some important steps to consider:

- Request a referral to a neurologist β€” MG diagnosis can be complex and sometimes requires a specialist, not just lab results alone
- Ask about additional testing β€” diagnosis can involve nerve conduction tests, repetitive nerve stimulation, or specific antibody panels beyond standard labs
- Keep a symptom journal β€” track when symptoms are worst, what makes them better or worse, and bring this to every appointment
- Don't ignore the choking β€” difficulty swallowing can lead to serious complications, so this needs urgent attention from your doctor It's worth knowing that MG symptoms often worsen with activity and improve with rest β€” this pattern is something a neurologist will look for specifically.

If at any point you have serious trouble breathing, call emergency services immediately. That is a medical emergency.
