Members jumped in with warm encouragement for the question about whether alcohol-filled chocolates are safe to enjoy, with the general consensus being that a small treat in moderation is likely fine. Several members shared their own personal experiences, noting that a couple of liqueur chocolates would be far less impactful than a beer or glass of wine, and one member happily reported eating one truffle a day with no issues. A recurring theme was the importance of knowing your own body, trying it at home first to monitor any effects, and giving yourself permission to enjoy a small, thoughtful gift.

Hell, I drink a glass of wine most every night and can still stand up...😁

I can usually have 2 beers or a beer and a drink without ill effects, after that can be a problem if I need to drive. I can't imagine a couple of chocolates with liqueur would be devastating. Have a couple at home one evening and see what happens.

Carol. Now you know this Black/German chick is having a nerve-wracking breakdown because I would've eaten all the chocolate and the box😆with out the answer. You know German folks make chocolate with Asbach brandy in it, so this was great news but disappointing news for me 😆. Yes let's listen to our bodies we all know what's right for us. Go team, good morning from Louisville Kentucky the bourbon state🤣🤣

What a thoughtful coworker! The question is whether alcohol-filled chocolates are safe to enjoy with myasthenia gravis.

The short answer is: it depends, and caution is worth it. Alcohol can worsen MG symptoms by increasing muscle weakness, even in small amounts. The alcohol content in a few truffles is likely minimal, but it's still worth being mindful.

A few things to consider:

- Medications matter — Some MG medications, like pyridostigmine, can interact with alcohol and may intensify side effects
- Timing — Avoid eating them when your medication is at its lowest effectiveness, as weakness could already be more pronounced
- Quantity — One or two small truffles is very different from eating the whole box (tempting as that may be!)
- Swallowing — If you experience any bulbar symptoms like difficulty chewing or swallowing, rich, dense chocolates could pose a challenge

The safest move is to check with your neurologist or care team, especially if you're on immunosuppressants or other MG medications. They can give guidance specific to your treatment plan.

That said, a small indulgence enjoyed mindfully may be perfectly fine for many people with MG. You know your body best! 🍫
