Could MG weaken the deltoid muscle after a reverse shoulder replacement?
Yes, MG could potentially weaken your deltoid muscle. MG causes muscle weakness by affecting how nerves communicate with muscles throughout the body, and this includes the muscles in your arms and shoulders.
Since a reverse shoulder replacement relies on the deltoid muscle to hold the joint in place and provide stability, weakness in that muscle from MG could affect how well the joint functions. This weakness might make the shoulder more vulnerable to issues like dislocation.
It's really important to discuss this with both your orthopedic surgeon and your MG specialist. They can evaluate whether your MG is contributing to the dislocation and adjust your treatment plan accordingly. They may also recommend physical therapy tailored to your specific situation to help strengthen the area while managing your MG symptoms.
A MGteam member shared that muscle weakness from MG can put extra strain on joints and change how someone moves, which over time may lead to joint problems.

Update, saw my orthopedic surgeon today. He said MG could cause the deltoid muscle to weaken, reducing stability. Doing exercises to keep the deltoid muscle as strong as possible. If I have another dislocation, will need a new joint replacement. Fingers crossed.
