Why did you suddenly start talking incoherently with words coming out wrong?

This sounds like dysarthria, which is slurred or difficult speech that affects many people with myasthenia gravis. It happens when MG causes weakness in the muscles you use for speaking—particularly your jaw and tongue muscles.

When these muscles can't move properly, it becomes harder to form words correctly. You might notice:

- Your speech sounds slurred and others have trouble understanding you
- You have difficulty pronouncing certain sounds, especially those requiring tongue movement
- You feel tired after speaking for extended periods

This type of speech difficulty can affect up to 60 percent of people with MG, ranging from mild pronunciation issues to more significant speech impairment. The weakness often gets worse as the day goes on or after you've been talking for a while.

It's important to let your MG specialist know about this symptom, especially if it came on suddenly. They can evaluate whether your treatment plan needs adjustment to better manage these bulbar symptoms.

Hi Di.
I am so sorry this has happened even with you being on medicine. If I miss a dose, I can tell I am having a hard time pronouncing certain words, but it never gets bad enough for anyone else to notice. Yes, it is very embarrassing. Before I was diagnosed, no one called me because they could not understand me and I had to take a pad and pen to my doctor visits. I had to write everything out. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

My speech was bad until I was diagnosed with MG and started on medication. I rarely have an issue now.

Yeah. I get that from time to time. And when it happens I try to apologize and it makes it worse. And funny. Try to fix it and keep saying the same thing. I think because I get anxious to fix it, makes it worse. But I want to think its also a flare that can be fixed with rest.
