Is it safe to use Epsom salts in the tub since they contain magnesium?

Epsom salts (magnesium sulfate) used in baths are generally considered safer than taking magnesium supplements by mouth or receiving it intravenously. The main concern with magnesium and MG is when it's taken in high doses internally, especially through IV administration, which can trigger a myasthenic crisis.

When you soak in an Epsom salt bath, your skin absorbs only a small amount of magnesium compared to oral or IV forms. This limited absorption makes it much less likely to cause the muscle weakness issues associated with higher magnesium doses.

That said, everyone's MG is different, and some people may be more sensitive than others. If you're considering using Epsom salts:

* Start with a small amount to see how your body responds
* Keep the soaking time shorter initially
* Pay attention to how you feel during and after the bath
* Stop if you notice any increased muscle weakness or fatigue

It's always best to check with your neurologist before trying Epsom salt baths, especially if your MG symptoms are currently unstable or if you're managing other health conditions alongside MG.
