Hey Dan, my left eye lid stopped working and stayed that way for a year and a half. Then the eye lid surgeon did his thing and it failed. He had 3 blood tests done and they all came back positive for MG. My gp started me immediately on prednisone and azathioprine and the eye lid opened up the next day and has worked perfectly for over 3 years now.
Cheers, Bill Z

What other options are available for managing severe eyelid drooping when taping is your current solution?
It sounds like you're dealing with significant ptosis that's really impacting your vision. The good news is there are several other options beyond taping that might help you see better.
Medical devices and aids that can help:
* Ptosis props or eyelid crutches - small bars that attach to your eyeglasses to hold your eyelids up
* Prism lenses - special eyeglasses that can help if you're also experiencing double vision
* Eye patches - covering one eye might help with vision clarity if double vision is an issue
* Cold compresses - applying ice packs for up to 20 minutes can provide temporary relief by helping muscles contract
Surgical option:
Eyelid surgery (ptosis surgery) can permanently lift droopy eyelids. A MGteam member shared: "Pyridostigmine didn't work for me. I had to have the ptosis surgery to keep the eyelid up." Since you're already on Mestinon and CellCept, and transitioning between newer treatments, it's worth discussing with your neurologist whether adjusting your current medication regimen might help. Sometimes it takes time to find the right combination.
Your ophthalmologist can fit you for ptosis props or prism lenses, which many members have found helpful. Given how significantly this is affecting your daily life, discussing the surgical option with your eye specialist might also be worthwhile.
Hang in there - you're not alone in dealing with this challenging symptom.
