My doctor started me on 30MG Pyridostigmine once daily but has increased it regularly and I now take two 60MG every three hours. Nothing else has been recommended in the way of medication or other treatment.
My gMG mostly affects my facial muscles, throat and neck so I have trouble swallowing and speaking as well as a constant stiff neck. My eyes may be affected as well, but I also have macular degeneration so it's difficult to know.

What treatments are commonly used for managing gMG symptoms?

There are several treatment options available beyond pyridostigmine (Mestinon). While pyridostigmine helps improve muscle-nerve communication, many people with gMG require additional treatments for optimal symptom management.

Common treatment options include:
• Immunosuppressive medications like prednisone
• Complement inhibitors like eculizumab
• Intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIg) therapy
• Plasma exchange (plasmapheresis)
• Thymectomy (surgical removal of thymus gland) Given your symptoms affecting facial muscles, throat, neck, and possibly eyes, it would be beneficial to discuss additional treatment options with your MG specialist. Treatment plans are typically tailored to each person's specific needs and symptom severity. If pyridostigmine alone isn't providing adequate relief, your healthcare provider may consider adding other treatments to your regimen.

Remember that treatment effectiveness varies among individuals, and finding the right combination may take time. Your specialist can guide you in choosing treatments most likely to work for your specific situation.
