This masklike appearance is a common symptom of MG that affects up to 60% of people with the condition. It happens when facial muscles become weak, making it harder to show expressions even when you're feeling emotional inside. This can be especially noticeable when you're tired or have been active for long periods.

Here are some helpful strategies to manage this situation:
• Verbally express your emotions more often to help others understand how you're feeling
• Teach friends, family, and coworkers about MG and how it affects facial expressions
• Keep track of when symptoms worsen (like end of day or after activities) in an MG diary
• Consider connecting with a mental health provider for additional coping strategies Remember that with proper treatment and management, many MGteam members report improvement in their facial expressions and "getting their smiles back." While it may take time to find the right treatment combination that works for you, working closely with your healthcare team can help reduce symptom impact and improve your quality of life.

It maybe some sort of mood thing or even the sound of my voice as it has changed due to the effects of MG as my voice is wispy at times and I feel I’m not heard and ignored so I feel frustrated ,however the mask like face has become worse with my facial muscles becoming worse,my neurologist does say that the facial muscles can be affected by MG like any other muscles

Alice, can I ask, are they saying you look angry or do you have bouts of anger? People tell me the same thing, that my expressions look angry. When I am exhausted I also seem to be short fused. I actually saw my neurologist today for my 4 months follow up and he said changing facial expressions is NOT a symptom of MG. Sometimes I want to give up......Asking myself why I continue to go to the doctor just to be told my symptoms are not related.

There have been people in my life that have asked me why I scowl so much anymore. Honestly, I do not know I am even doing this. I have always been one to smile. I have also noticed I have deep lines on each side of my mouth like my face is falling.
