Diane,
I empathize with you on the dry cough in Dry, dry Arizona. You might try hot water, not tap, 1-2 tsp local honey, 1/4 tsp Cinnamon, 2-3 tsp fresh lemon juice. Sip often through the night when throat gets irritated. I drink this elixir during the day also. Better than straight water.

Hi Diane! So sorry to hear about your cough! It's a chronic problem for me, too. Sometimes productive and sometimes unproductive. I have allergies that contribute to mine, but it's largely related to the increased secretions that Mestinon causes. If that's contributing to yours as well, you might want to think about asking your doctor if he/she can prescribe something to help with that.
Hoping that you find some relief! Blessings to you! ❀️ wm

Last January 2024 had a cough that started out dry and became a whole thing. Had trouble swallowing couldn't speak well it effected my chest my throat just became inflamed. Found out it was something a new BP med my primary physician rx'd me. The primary sent me to a pulmonary specialist who told me the medicine started it all. He took me off and put me thru a bunch of tests the result of which was I have coughing asthma πŸ™ƒ πŸ˜• I was like ok bring it on what's next.
I have asthma meds and the other rx was stopped. My cough disappeared within a week. After having had it for like 3 to 4 months. Ad it was absolutely embarrassing 😳 so that's over.
Stay hopeful and talk to the doc about it. 😎❀

While a dry cough isn't directly listed as a primary MG symptom, it's important to note that MG can affect the muscles involved in breathing and swallowing. Of particular concern is that difficulty with swallowing (dysphagia) can lead to aspiration, where food or liquids enter the airway, potentially causing coughing.

A persistent cough, especially one that occurs at night, should be evaluated by your MG specialist as it could indicate swallowing difficulties or other respiratory muscle involvement. This is particularly important since respiratory complications can be serious for people with MG. It's crucial to have this symptom checked promptly by your doctor, as people with MG have an increased risk of developing pneumonia if swallowing difficulties aren't properly managed. Your specialist can evaluate whether the cough is related to your MG and recommend appropriate management strategies.

I sometimes wake up during the night with a cough. I don't know if it caused from the reflux I have or if it myasthenia related. It interrupts my sleep and then I don't get a good night's sleep. I hate it.
