I trusted my heart doctor's. I didn't want to go through everything I went through again. They ashird me they would check and be there with me all the way. I had to have my heart stop and restarted. Happy to say it was good.

General anesthesia is possible for people with MG, but it does come with extra risks that need careful management. Because MG already affects how nerves communicate with muscles, anesthesia — which works in a similar way — can amplify those effects.
The two main complications to be aware of are:
- Cholinergic crisis – caused by too much acetylcholine in the nervous system, which can happen if certain MG medications interact with anesthesia drugs
- Myasthenic crisis – a life-threatening event where breathing muscles become too weak to function on their own The good news is that with the right preparation, these risks can be significantly reduced. Here are some important steps to take:
- Tell your surgeon and anesthesiologist about your MG diagnosis before any procedure
- Request a surgical team with experience treating MG patients
- Ask about local or regional anesthesia as an alternative to general anesthesia when possible
- Have your neurologist involved in pre-surgery planning so your medications and symptoms are properly managed
If general anesthesia is necessary, the anesthesiologist will typically avoid certain muscle-relaxing drugs and instead use inhaled medications or IV options like propofol.
Always make sure your care team has a plan in place for potential complications — being proactive really makes a difference here.
