Cindy, I am at 3mg of Prednisone for one more week, moving down to 2mg.
I am taking a veg-enzyme probiotic in a.m., and a Clinical Digestive Enzymes with Pancreatin (the brand is Terry Naturally from my health food store) at the end of the day. I have had no issues with this regime. I will be happy to get off the Prednisone as it has caused more issues at the 20mg dosage I started with.

How can you manage the difficult side effects while tapering off prednisone?

Tapering off prednisone can be really challenging, and what you're experiencing is unfortunately common. The gas and heartburn are particularly uncomfortable side effects that many people deal with during this process.

Here are some suggestions that might help:

* Talk to your doctor about medications for heartburn relief - they can recommend safe options that won't interfere with your MG treatment
* Eat smaller, more frequent meals instead of large ones
* Avoid foods that trigger heartburn (spicy, acidic, or fatty foods)
* Stay upright for a few hours after eating
* Try over-the-counter antacids, but check with your pharmacist first about interactions

The good news is you're almost done with the taper. One more week at 2mg and then a month at 1mg means you're in the home stretch.

Your body is adjusting to producing its own cortisol again after relying on prednisone, which is why you feel so rough. This adjustment period is temporary, even though it doesn't feel that way right now.

Make sure to rest when you need to and be patient with yourself. If symptoms become unbearable or you notice your MG symptoms worsening significantly, contact your doctor right away.
