I’m stressed and depressed. I was rushed to the er from work on 2/2 and hospitalized for 5 days, received IVIG, then doctor wrote a note to return to work a week after I was released as I had home healthcare and still using a walker. I went back as my doctor advised and on Tuesday wrote an email asking why my medical accommodation where… read more

Was I fired because of my MG?

I'm so sorry you're going through this. The timing and circumstances you describe are deeply concerning and understandably upsetting.

While it's impossible to know your employer's true motivations without legal investigation, the sequence of events raises red flags. Being fired days after requesting a medical accommodation that was denied—especially when others work remotely and you'd received consistent praise—suggests your termination may be connected to your MG and accommodation request.

What you should know:

The Americans with Disabilities Act requires employers to make reasonable accommodations for people with disabilities, including MG. Workplace accommodations can include work-at-home options, which you specifically requested based on your doctor's orders.

When you have MG and need accommodations to perform your job, your employer must engage in a good-faith process to find solutions. Denying a reasonable accommodation without explanation, especially when similar arrangements exist for others, may violate your rights.

Consider these steps:

* Document everything: Save all emails, medical notes, your termination letter, and any communications about your accommodation request
* Contact an employment attorney who specializes in disability discrimination—many offer free consultations
* File a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) if you believe you were discriminated against
* Reach out to your state's labor department for guidance

The vague reasons given for your termination ("uncomfortable relationship fit" and unspecified "skill sets") combined with the timing make this worth investigating legally.

You deserved better treatment, especially after a medical crisis requiring hospitalization and IVIG treatment.
