There are stating alternatives that work equally as well!
Statins are on the list of medications that can actually precipitate MG therefore I think that you should be very careful about taking statins. I am one of the people whose MG was precipitated by statins. I reacted very badly to statins and went on to try three different kinds because that was the protocol. When I failed with three statins my doctors stopped trying to find one that I could take. Then the MG symptoms started. Because they can precipitate MG I would be very careful about taking them if I already had a diagnosis of MG because I would be concerned about negative effects.
It is also known that statins may unmask underlying neuromuscular diseases. There have been a few case reports of worsening of myasthenia gravis (MG) in patients treated with statins. However, their effect on MG has not been studied systematically. My doctor prescribed me statin and I asked my consultant and he told me no to take it. There are other alternatives and cholesterol can be lowered with change of diet.
Diana thank you for that
I have a follow up with my neuro next week and have to do blood tests before then. I have changed my diet dramatically and hopefully my bp is lowered as well.
